BIMER & M:M "Frankenstein meets Mummy - Stencil meets Graff" ATM Gallery

As much as Frankenstein represents Horror within the world of film, Graffiti and Stencil Art are often regarded as fright ghosts within the urban cosmos.Too often this young art genre has been regarded as some sort of vandalism or scribbling. Therefore it is one of ATM gallery’s main aims to support the transparency and acceptance and show its’ artistic approach.

For the first time ATM gallery brings together two styles of urban art, which couldn’t be any more contrary. Bimer & M:M, both berlin based artists agreed to be part of an experiment that tries to create new ways of working together by bringing together two different urban art styles.

The Opening of Bimer's & M:M's Show "Frankenstein meets Mummy - Stencil meets Graff" takes place this friday, 29.th may from 7pm at ATM Gallery, Brunnenstr.24, Berlin-Mitte.

Nelly Duff presents A Toasters production "Tresspassers of the world Unite"

The Toaster "Tresspassers of the world Unite"
28th May 2009

On Thursday 28th May 2009, The Toasters and fifteen of their fellow trespassers, some of Europe’s most influential artists from the world of street art, will come together in East London for a collaborative exhibition. The Toasters, one of the original pioneers of street art in the UK and globally, have entertained the streets since 1999, appearing on posters, banners, stickers and murals all over the world in Berlin, Stockholm, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Sydney, New York, Paris, Peckham... everywhere!

Born on a cold New Years Eve in 1998, over a kitchen table in Wolverhampton, The Toaster project started life as an idea of how to make a mundane object famous, subverting the image by its placement and its graphic rendering! The Toaster project grew and has inevitably over the years created more questions than answers along the way.

Trespassers of the World Unite is a celebration of the last 10 years on the street for the infamous Toasters and a nod to those artists who they have respected over the years – hand picked through their long standing friendships, ripe talent and a maturity of work that has seen these artists at the forefront of the Graffiti movement since it's explosion in the mid 1980's.

A total of fifteen artists are involved in the collaborative exhibition with The Toasters; Will Barras, Bomb Kid, Butch, Crackrock, Dicy, Eco, Erosie, Influenza, Mr Jago, Late, Paris, Phet, Rabodiga, space3 and Zime.

Trespassers of the World Unite will take place on the evening of Thursday 28th May 2009 at as yet an undisclosed location in Hoxton… an area where all the artists exhibiting have in the last decade painted, pasted, trespassed and ran away from the police with The Toasters.

The 'Trespassers of the World Unite' show opens on Thursday 28th May between 6-9pm. The exhibition will run for 2 weeks.

COOP / A solo exhibition at Corey Helford Gallery

Opening Reception Friday, May 29, 2009 from 7 to 10pm
On View May 29 until June 20, 2009

Corey Helford Gallery is proud to present the highly-anticipated solo exhibition of new works by celebrated Pop-artist COOP. Since 2006, Los Angeles has been on the waiting list for COOP’s next explosion of larger-than-life pop iconography, and his upcoming solo show of irreverent and outrageous fine art is built for speed. Bold and brazen does not begin to describe the parade of leering devils, voluptuous vixens, and hell-bound hot rods that dominate his electric acrylic-on-canvas paintings. Considered one of the pioneers of the Contemporary New Fine Art movement, COOP steps out from his arsenal of sin to unveil the next phase in his evolving creations of neo-Pop imagery. An original music score written and recorded by Mark Mothersbaugh of DEVO will be featured on opening night. The reception will take place on Friday, May 29 from 7 to 10pm and is open to the public. The show will be on view until June 20, 2009.

Born in Bixby, Oklahoma, Chris Cooper, AKA COOP, began his art career at the tender age of two, with crayons in hand. Shortly after the ink was dry on his high school diploma, he left his home state for Los Angeles where he landed his first solo exhibition in 1993 at La Luz de Jesus Gallery. Since then, COOP has been steadily taking over the art world, exhibition after exhibition, and his paintings have been showcased around the world from Merry Karnowsky in Los Angeles, Deitch Projects in New York and the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston to galleries in Zurich and Milan.

Inspired by hot rodding, car culture, B-movie monsters, sexploitation flicks and the world of fetish, COOP parleyed his artistic talent into a merchandising empire, creating custom collections of fine art prints, rock and roll posters, artist-series apparel, lifestyle accessories, skateboards and toys. COOP released The Devil’s Advocate, a full-color coffee table book, which was an immediate sellout and is currently in its fourth printing. Following the success of his first release, COOP’s second book, The Big Fat One is a 1008-page sketchbook and was published in October, 2002.

The powerHouse Arena presents Busted! powerHouse Magazine Issue 5 / Exhibition

Remember when you got grounded in 10th grade for coming home drunk and vomiting on the dog? Or the time you got caught selling fake ecstasy and were escorted out of that after-hours dive? Or how about the time your girlfriend got your password and broke into your Gmail account, only to discover you had an online honey? Man, if you had a dollar for every time you got busted, you'd be able to post bail right about now.

Held in conjunction with the publication of Busted (powerHouse Magazine Issue 5), The powerHouse Arena will host an exhibition of art that celebrates all that goes wrong when you're up to no good. Come join us to point and laugh at all the failures, fiascos, and hilariously embarrassing situations captured by these talented artists. Busted promises the most eclectic mix of nogoodniks, anarchists, and frisky kids ever caught between two covers.

Walrus TV Zephyr Interview From “Dithers”

This week, Walrus TV brings you an interview with art pioneer Andrew Witten, also-known-as graffiti legend, Zephyr. Pulled from the Dithers series, Zephyr talks about his early days as a train painter in New York, and his time spent with some of graff history's most-notable and influential artists.

During the early 80s, it was Zephyr who was part of the first wave of graffiti artists who made the transition into the galleries in the East Village. Alongside fellow artists Futura 2000 and Dondi White, Zephyr helped take graffiti to the next level; pulling it out of the streets and putting it into the galleries, their phenomenal work gained the praise and respect of graffiti heads, collectors, and art critics alike. Watch the interview on Walrus TV.

SEIZE aka Happywallmaker Interview by DonutChocula

Seize aka Happywallmaker

I was born in Paris in 1971. I started tagging at the beginning of the 80s. Building on my experience, I was influenced by the greatest painters of the 20th century and then developed my own style, between graffiti and contemporary painting. Some people call it street art.

That is for you Graffiti? Geometry?

It is painting above all. My technique comes from graffiti; my ideas from geometry – but for me, true graffiti is essentially a state of mind. It is an illegal act executed with style and not many can do that.

As has been influenced, to work for ten years in the metro to create your artwork?

In fact, I was a bus driver in Paris and I must admit that all those road networks on maps which I had to learn in connection with my job finally influenced me. It is mainly because of that crazy job that I decided to earn a living as a painter. I felt out of place behind a steering wheel, though that’s what built me, artistically speaking.

Street or Gallery...

Both. It is just the same work shown to different people in different places. I have images and ideas to share, whatever the location. But all in all, the street always has the last word.

To use tools to create?

My main tool is improvisation.

What is your favourite shape?

The triangle, because it symbolizes direction, determination and stability.

Mac or PC?
I have discovered IT and the Internet three years ago on a PC.

Influences? Recommendations?

Keith Haring, Dubuffet, Paul Klee, Nikki de Saint-Phalle, Moebius, Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins, H.R. Giger, and many more…

One City / One Book / One Color...

San Fransisco / L’Incal (a comic book by Moebius) / Blue

What music are you listening while you work?

I listen to jazz. It is the music that fits better with creativity and improvisation. My painting is in line with this music, because it is free.

Upcoming projects...

The 25 may i am in the festival jam "La nuit du Sreet art" with all the french street art scene the jam is in the middlle of paris big show with artits, galleries...
