Walrus TV Artist Feature: Bigfoot Interview from “Dithers”

Walrus TV Artist Feature: Bigfoot Interview from “Dithers”

I just try and come up with some deep nature shit.
-Bigfoot

More interested in the primitive than the urban, Bigfoot's nature-oriented imagery and style developed in response to graffiti's emphasis on inner city life. His massive Sasquatch figures and forests depict a sense of freedom and respect for the natural world and, conversely, his disdain for industrialized overdevelopment. Bigfoot's work has been in exhibitions held in cities throughout the United States. He also co-founded the company I-Path with Matt Fields, serving as art director and designer. Watch the interview from "Dithers," available for the first time to the public for free, on Walrus TV.

Bigfoot Originally from New Jersey, Bigfoot moved to the West Coast to attend the San Francisco Art Institute where he was taught the kind of art he "didn't want to make." He started writing Bigfoot in 1994, his characters and landscapes developing as an evolution of his name. Now an internationally known artist, his work appears in exhibitions and product collaborations worldwide.

The Ghostvillage Project by Agents Of Change

The Ghostvillage Project from Agents Of Change on Vimeo.

The Ghostvillage Project was created over 3 days on the west coast of Scotland. 6 artists - Timid, Remi/Rough, System, Stormie Mills, Juice 126, Derm - were given free reign to paint in an abandoned 1970s village. Working together on huge collaborative walls and individually in hidden nooks and crannies all over the site the artists realised long held dreams and were inspired by the bleakness and remoteness of the site. Drawing on the history of the village the artists' stated intent on completion of the project was to populate the ghostvillage with the art and characters that it deserved.

The Selby is In Your Space new book

The Selby Is in Your Place was conceived when fashion and interiors photographer Todd Selby began taking portraits of dynamic and creative people—authors, musicians, artists, and designers—in their home environments and posting them on his web site. Nosy by nature, he wanted to see how personal style was reflected in private spaces. Lucky for us, he found his answer in the color-rich and eclectic quarters of a diverse group of subjects, including Simon Doonan and Jonathan Adler, Faris Rotter, Andre Walker, and Olivier Zahm, in New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Tokyo, Sydney, and London.

Each profile is accompanied by Selby’s watercolor portraits of the subjects and objects from their homes, and illustrated questionnaires, which Selby asks each sitter to fill out. This book consists of over thirty profiles, many of which have never-before-seen, selected exclusively for the book. The result is a collection of unique spaces bursting with energy and personality that together create a colorful hodgepodge of inspirational interiors.

Todd Selby is an interiors, fashion, and portrait photographer and painter. His photographs can be regularly seen in British Vogue, Vogue Hommes International, Dazed and Confused, Another Magazine, Nylon, New York Magazine, and the London Sunday Times. Lesley Arfin is the New York-based author of Dear Diary and the former editor of Missbehave magazine.

Reserve your copy of The Selby is In Your Space hardcover book now so you get it as soon as it ships. Its 256 pages filled with tons of never seen before spaces. Plus it comes with stickers.

Walrus TV / Herbert Baglione

William Baglione, brother of famed Brazilian artist Herbert Baglione, shared this clip of Herbert at work on his recent trip to San Francisco. The video coincides with Herbert Baglione’s solo show, The Dark Wave, at FIFTY24SF Gallery and gives us a glimpse into the haunting characters and impressive technique that are Baglione signatures. The Dark Wave is showing until January 28, 2010 and sketches and paintings are available for sale online, while the new video is available on Walrus TV.

Herbert BaglioneThe basis of my work is speaking about the coldness and competitiveness present in people. I like to be ironic about individuality and death, and the paths in which to reach or escape these themes. I find it funny when I walk on the streets and see people with their eyes open but dead inside. This makes me think and wonder if I’m still alive.

ANTENNA x KIA x HUF x REMIO

When pro-skater Keith Hufnagel made the transition from New York City to the West Coast, it did not take him long to realize that San Francisco would be the city he’d call home. Never afraid to take chances, the HUF shop owner believes that Soul Xpression means, “Doing whatever you want.” And that he has done. Opening the doors to his first San Francisco-based shop HUF in August 2002 on the offbeat block of Sutter Street just above the Tenderloin District; Hufnagel has gone on to team up with Nike SB, Jansport, DVS, and Vans to create exclusive collaborations. “The aim is to bring the best of what footwear, streetwear, and skateboarding brands have to offer under one roof,” he says.

HUF quickly grew to be known as San Francisco’s premiere purveyor of rare goods. But even after growing his brand into three shops and a clothing line, Keith’s first love has and always will be skating. So when we approached him about designing his own Kia Soul, he immediately envisioned “Remio trucks.” The Vancouver-based graffiti artist Remio is known for leaving his stamp on massive trucks and watching them go. Hufnagel was excited to let Remio, who describes his art as “an emotional outlet,” work on the exterior of his Kia Soul. What better way to spread your message and love for the street than on four wheels?

SICKBOY presents LOGOPOP a special "one night only" solo exhibition

Acclaimed UK street artist, Sickboy presents ‘Logopop’, a special ‘one night only’ solo exhibition of new limited edition work and site-specific installations in east London this December 16.

Following the success of his major solo exhibition, ‘Stay Free’ last year, which saw Sickboy transform a Victorian building into a themed playground, the artist returns with this one-off extravaganza, inviting art fans to dive once again into the extraordinary depths of his imagination.

With ‘Logopop,’ Sickboy recreates the lysergic symbolism that underpins much of his work, and delivers it in his characteristically unexpected way. Launching an eye-watering visual assault on audiences using installations and digital technology, Sickboy introduces a series of dynamic and surprising show features which have become a hallmark of this artist.

The new collection of work for ‘Logopop’ has been developed throughout 2009 and aims to unravel the relationship between the artist’s complex and imaginatively-detailed artworks and his signature simple, bold and raw urban interventions. In addition to original artworks, the artist introduces his innovative concept of Logopops – artworks sold in various sizes which can be connected together, giving fans the opportunity to create their own bespoke compositions and own a truly original piece of Sickboy art. The artist says: "Logopops are my visual bullet to the mind. They sidestep the layered meanings within my art and simplify the message into something tangible and understandable at the glance of an eye."

‘Logopop’ is the pinnacle of 2009, which has been the artist’s most successful year to date, and the perfect interlude before his second major solo show in spring 2010.
Logopop takes place at The Rag Factory, 16-18 Heneage Street, London on December 16th. Register for an invite at thesickboy.com.
