"I was looking at Lynda Benglis’ poured latex pieces, an irreverent response to Carl Andre and minimalist sculpture. Someone called my early embroidery work failed minimalism. I like things that defy classification and appear to fail. Things which undermine themselves betray a kind of honesty.

I am drawn to low-tech mediums, and evidence of the hand in art. The promise of evolution in the amateur gesture. I am interested in pleasure but also awkwardness. I see myself as a rueful pop artist.

I grew up in the 70’s and 80’s and use the visual noise of my youth as inspiration. My sense of futurism was informed by Star Wars (dusty, robots), rather than Tomorrowland. I want my work to relay an optimistic vision of the future that does not deny entropy."
