SWA PROJECT | Sew What America

Opening reception: February 23, 2013 | 8 - 11pm
Show runs: February 23 - March 9, 2013

Hand made Quilts, Flat Work, and accessories designed by Katrina Santa-Ana and Victor Reyes.

The conversation between textile design and painting has been developed into quilts and flat work that resemble the tapestries of America Folk-Art. Having worked within this conversation over the past year Katrina Santa-Ana and Victor Reyes have turned these quilts into accessories that are full of the unique energy of both painting and quilting. The initial goal was to create flat works that wove the story of graffiti into the context of American folk art as the recognition of urban art gains acceptance the world. These pieces visually marry old traditions with the new role of graffiti as a form of cultural expression and Identity.

Hand made in San Francisco, California, the Sew What America collaboration between the paintings of Victor Reyes and the flat work designs of Katrina Santa-Ana. These accessories feature original designs on fine linens and exotic leathers. Each piece is individually printed or hand painted and sewn into a unique jewel that radiates individuality and comfort. Handmade with love, no two are the same, and each is something worth admiring.
