Oh Snap

New paintings. First show in Los Angeles since 2008.
Opening Celebration March 1st 7pm - 10pm

We’re excited to announce the opening reception of Justin Krietemeyer’s first solo show, at the esteemed This Gallery in the Highland Park community of Los Angeles, California. “Oh Snap” will open on Friday, March 1 and run through March 15, 2013. The show is a homecoming for Krietemeyer, his first substantial L.A. exhibition since 2008. “Oh Snap” will feature large graphite renderings with watercolor abstractions of acid house smileys, handmade multiples exploring the idea of almost reaching enlightenment but forgetting the path that took you there, and mixed media panels representing a warm remembering of warehouse parties, surf salutations, desert discoveries, and the infinite present. The exhibition will be colorful, silly, and optimistic with a vibe that’s completely California. You are cordially invited and will be warmly welcomed.

“Oh Snap” is a colorful body of new work by California artist Justin Krietemeyer. The exhibition, Krietemeyer’s first solo show, opens March 1, 2013 at the esteemed This Gallery located in the Highland Park community of Los Angeles, California. The show is a homecoming for Krietemeyer, his first substantial L.A. exhibition since 2008.

The body of work is a recontextualization of mid-’90s rave, surf, and street culture presented as paintings, drawings, and mixed media pictures. The title, “Oh Snap”—a playful ’90s phrase used to indicate surprise, excitement, or shock—reflects the reaction Krietemeyer hopes the show’s visitors will express while immersed in the exhibition. “It’s important to remember to have fun,” Krietemeyer explains. “I want the experience of standing in the gallery to be so strikingly bright and positive that our guests can’t help but talk about good times and leave with a positive charge.”

“Oh Snap” is lovingly dedicated to our good friend Justin Van Hoy.
